Spring Cleaning Tips to Avoid Costly Insurance Claims

At home with extra time on your hands…here’s a few Spring Cleaning Tips to help prevent costly insurance claims.

Clean your dryer vent. Even if you clean the lint trap after every load, often times lint gets into the vent. If the vent becomes clogged it could spark a fire when using your dryer.

Replace your washing machine water hoses. It's recommended that washing machine water hoses be replaced every 3-5 years to prevent leaks. Consider replacing your water hoses with a no-burst woven metal hose to avoid leaks.

Replace air filters. Your air conditioner and furnace run more efficiently when clean. You can extend the life of your unit by replacing filters regularly.

Check bathroom/kitchen caulk. Winter temps put stress on plumbing in your home. When caulk cracks, it becomes the first place water leaks. Re-caulking is easy and cheaper to deal with than major water damage.

Clean your gutters. Clogged downspouts and Spring rains can cause water to spill over the edges and flow down the side of your home. This could cause water damage.

We hope these tips will keep you and your home safe! Enjoy the beautiful Spring weather and tackle a Spring Cleaning project or two!
